PC monitor wont start after accidentally running disk compression when a program is open?
I just formatted the root drive of my PC, reinstalled the OS (Windows XP) and upgraded to service pack 3 and reinstalled all drivers and programs needed. The PC was running fine for three days. However, I noted that the OS, upgrades and programs took most of the C: drive disk space that’s why I decided to compress the drive to save some but I forget to close a running program (Metatrader 4). The operation didn’t proceed, in fact it ended with a prompt that says “cannot compress drive. File xxxx (I can’t remember what file it was) is being used by a program”. I closed the program & rebooted my PC. Power is ok, CD rom boots and light turned on momentarily, hard disk boots and light is on and spins but it sounds like it’s booting twice because I can hear the grinding sound (sound we hear when a PC boots) twice but wont post to monitor (orange light wont turn to green). Bios startup wont display because monitor wont turn on. No bios beeping sound can be heard (usually a long beep sound when it was running normally). I opened tha PC case and tried re-seating the RAM modules and also the CPU fan & heat sink and tried switching the PC on again. The CPU fan runs continuously and the MB light is also on but monitor wont start,
What went wrong?
It’s not possible to reinstall the OS because the PC doesn’t post to the monitor. Maybe taking out the hard disk and connecting it to another PC, but I only have one PC and a laptop.

you compressed your BOOT file,
you need to reinstall the os
Very weird. If it were me, since you just formatted and installed XP, I would try reinstalling XP again. You should not need to compress the hard drive; how big is it?
Another option would be to buy a larger drive and reinstall XP. Good luck.
Reinstall. And don’t compress your disk. Buy an additional and bigger one. They’re cheap.
